What the apps have in common

  • Kept on your device.

Health Record and Carer Workbench keep working records in your browser. We never receive them, and the apps contain no tracking or advertising code. Download backups separately and keep them safe.

  • Keep a safe copy.

Back up your saved files as you would any important document. Check each app’s guide for its saving and security options.

  • Administrative, not medical.

Reports are deliberately shared and reviewed, not monitored live. The apps do not diagnose or give medical advice.

  • Made for large print.

Big type, big buttons, plain labels, and no color-only meaning.

Our apps store what you type and print it the way you ask. They are not a medical device, not medical or financial advice, and not a substitute for your doctor, pharmacist, or care team. If someone needs urgent help, call your local emergency number.

Why we wrote this series

After about 65, a few everyday risks start to matter more: a slip on the bathroom floor, a missed tablet, a convincing phone call from a “bank.” None of these is a reason to stop doing what you love. They're reasons to know what works.

That's what the Stay Safe Series is for. Each book takes one part of life, sorts out the practical fixes, the technology that actually helps, and the plans worth having, and explains them clearly enough to act on this week. No jargon, no lectures, no scare stories.

The goal isn't to be careful. It's to keep going.

Every fact, checked and sourced

Safety advice is only useful if it's true. So every statistic and every “this works” statement in the Stay Safe Series is checked against a credible, named source: government health and safety agencies, peer-reviewed research, and recognized aging organizations.

Each book ends with a Fact References chapter that lists the full citation for every figure. You don't have to take our word for it. You can look it up.

Read our Corrections Policy

  • Named sources No “studies show.” Every claim points to who said it.
  • Fact References in every book Full citations you can check yourself.
  • Corrections in the open If we get a fact wrong, we fix it and say so.

What readers are saying

My Apple Watch saved my life when I fell and couldn't get up. It called my daughter and sent my location, it's like having a guardian angel on my wrist.

Reader · Stay Safe in Any Emergency

I learnt that such things existed as changing the text size on my iPhone, setting a louder ring tone, and that I have a torch and a magnifying glass built in.

Karena K.

My Dad has fallen so many times, if he doesn't have his phone with him, I'm not sure what would happen. I think every family in our position should read this.

Carmel T.

Helping a parent stay independent?

You may be reading this for someone else. That's a good instinct, and it can be a delicate conversation. These books are written for the person living the life, not about them, so they work best read together or handed over without a lecture.

A useful first step: print the free Fall-Risk Checklist, sit down with a cup of tea, and go through it side by side. It turns “I'm worried about you” into “let's look at this together.”

A man in his seventies and his adult daughter go through a printed checklist together at a table.
